Folk Roots on Josephine Marsh

Music Network's traditional music tour this season unites two wonderful duos from opposite sides of the Irish Sea in a unique celebration of Celtic music. The Hibernian songbook has no more enthusiastic champions than acclaimed accordionist Josephine Marsh and her regular band-member and virtuoso mandolin/bouzouki player Declan Corey (three times former All-Ireland banjo champion). Both play with great passion and effortless virtuosity and Josephine's highly eclectic and distinctive style, distilled from the musical influences of East Clare, has a remarkable ability to lift the spirits.

Gareth Westacott and Guto Davis, a.k.a. Cardiff-based group Toreth, have in recent years unearthed a veritable treasure trove of traditional Welsh dance music and songs varying in mood from dry humour to romantic melancholy. Guto Davis' strident melodeon is usually a lone counter-foil to Gareth's fiery fiddle-playing and it will be a revelation to hear this pair playing alongside two of the today's most exciting Irish traditional musicians. All in all, this promises to be a magical evening.

This performance is sponsored by Cultural Co-operation and Touring @ Temple Bar & Aberystwyth Arts Centre, which is part-funded by Ireland Wales INTERREG programme. It is an initiative of the Theatre Shop and Aberystwyth Arts Centre and in Ireland is managed by Temple Bar Properties.
